Scheduling Surgery

If you have decided to have surgery the next step is to choose a date.   If your dates are very limited try to schedule at least six weeks in advance to make sure you can get the date you want.  There are several things to keep in mind when trying to pick the ideal date for you.

  • Because most of our surgeries don’t require an overnight hospital stay you will need to bring a companion to be with you after surgery.
  • We ask that you arrive in Bend two days before surgery and stay for three days after surgery.
  • Plan your date for a time when you will be able to limit your activities to allow your body to heal.  You will need 2 to 8 weeks recovery time depending on the extent of your disease.
  • Dr. Redwine does surgery every Tuesday and the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month.
  • Call or email Kate to see if your date is available.

At the time that you actually choose a date we ask for a $250 scheduling deposit to hold that date for you. This deposit is part of your surgery fee.   Because there are a limited amount of surgery days available and most of our patients come from a distance it is nearly impossible to give another patient (who is most likely in pain) a surgery opportunity after a last minute cancellation.  If you cancel less than 30 days prior to surgery you forfeit your deposit.

If you have insurance, we will need a copy of the front and back of the card as soon as possible.  If you are going to fax your copy to us please try to do an enlargement first as the faxing process often makes small letters and numbers illegible.

We will need a note (it may be as informal as a notation on a prescription pad) from your local doctor saying that they will see you post-operatively.   Of course we will not allow you to go home unless you are totally fine to do so, but we want to make sure that you have a local doctor who will see you if a problem should develop.  It is also important to have a six week post-operative pelvic exam to make sure that your healing is complete.  Please tell your doctor that they will receive a note from Dr. Redwine and a copy of your operative and pathology reports.

A few weeks prior to your surgery date you will receive a surgery confirmation letter from Kate with the time of your pre-operative appointment at the office.
