The day before surgery is a busy one. About two weeks before your surgery you will receive a confirmation letter telling you that your insurance has been verified. Along with office forms to fill out you will find a map to the office (also on this website) and your appointment time at Dr. Redwine's office.
Alana will check you in and then you will have your exam with Dr. Redwine. After your exam you will have all the time you need for him to explain your surgery and for you to ask questions. It is always a good idea to have someone with you to help ask questions, clarify and remember what was said. The same applies to the next part of your appointment which is meeting with Kate or Deena to talk about immediate post operative care and recovery. If you are going to do a bowel prep we will go over the instructions in detail. You will be given a map of the hospital so that you can easily find your next appointment, Pre-Surgery Clinic.
At Pre-Surgery Clinic blood work will be drawn and you will be asked about your prior anesthesia experiences. Dr. Redwine feels confident in all of the anesthesiologists so you are in good hands all the way around. You will be checked into the hospital system so that all you need to do the next morning is show up at the time that they will tell you. We won't know the exact time of your surgery until this day but we will probably be able to give you a "best guess" about a week beforehand. If you are doing a bowel prep you will then pick up your prep at a nearby pharmacy and go back to your lodging to begin. We want you to start as soon as possible so that you'll have plenty of time to finish before bedtime.
If you're not doing a bowel prep you're then free to spend the rest of the day as you choose. We know it's hard to be away from home for surgery so Dr. Redwine is happy to give you something for sleep if you're feeling anxious. Of course nothing to eat or drink after midnight.
