Thank you from a previous patient

I traveled from Juneau Alaska to Bend in May 2002 to receive surgery for extensive endometriosis. I didn’t know at the time how extensive my endo was but I had extremely painful periods, previous surgery, and was having a difficult time getting pregnant. Although he didn’t promise fertility, the surgery worked for eliminating the pain and almost exactly two years later I had my first child. I now have two beautiful healthy little girls (4 year old and a 1 year old). I have told so many people about Dr. Redwine and how thankful I am that I found him. I just wanted to say thanks again and that I attribute my ability to have a family to him.

It is difficult for me to talk about Dr. Redwine without getting choked up. This man gave me back my health "dignity" and dramatically improved the quality of my life. Thanks to Dr. Redwine's uncomparable skill, my bladder and bowel function have been restored to normal. I didn't know that outcome was possible. My pelvic and back pain have also vanished. I am just 4 weeks post-surgery with Dr. Redwine and doing great. I am thankful everyday for Dr. Redwine and his wonderful staff. Ladies, follow your instincts and put your health in the hands of one of the world's finest-- I am so glad I did (and I live out of state). Thank you Dr. Redwine, words are not enough to express the deep gratitude I feel towards you.

I had a softball sized endometrial cyst on my left ovary and a smaller cyst on my right, but I had no symptoms until last October when I collapsed at home with sudden severe pain. I visited my former OB/GYN here in Central Oregon who wanted to remove both my ovaries. I'm in my early 30s and still would like to have children.
One of my friends who had a similar surgery visited me the day I was diagnosed and recommended Dr. Redwine. By the way, she is now expecting her first child. My mother, an RN who lives in Georgia, also phoned and urged me to see him for a second opinion. I took their advice, and Dr. Redwine saved both my ovaries. I could not be more grateful.

Dr. Redwine restored quality to my life

I had extensive endometriosis surgery with Dr. Redwine in March of 2003, and I continue to be pain free in 2007. After years of suffering and living a life that was in a downward spiral due to chronic pain, I emerged a new person-- literally.
Since my surgery I have done a great deal of traveling. I went hang gliding in Brazil in 2004 to celebrate my 40th birthday, and I'm currently working on a PhD, neither of which could I have even considered prior to my surgery. Without a doubt, I owe my quality of life to Dr. Redwine. I am forever grateful for his skill and dedication.
I must say that his staff and the caregivers at St. Charles are second to none with regard to individual attention and overall quality of care.
The process was expensive, but I can think of no better way to utilize one's resources than to restore their quality of life-- I have no regrets and would recommend Dr. Redwine and St. Charles to anyone who's suffering from endo.

Two Years-No Pain!
Posted: Thursday, December 28, 2006 7:35:12 AM (PST)
It's two years today since my surgery, and there's been no more pain. I wanted to say thank you one more time to Dr. Redwine, his staff and the staff at St. Charles. My "thank yous" all seem so hollow, but I suspect that all of you know the difference you make in people's lives everyday. I reached down to feel the scars from surgery and there's barely anything there now-Dr. Redwine is so good! No scars, No pain. I waited a life time for this. I wish I could find another way to say thank you. I wish I could do something to show how grateful I am. I close my eyes and I see all of you-your warm smiles; your gentle ways; and Dr.Redwine's healing hands and determination to see things through. I feel like I owe you so much. I owe you my life.
December 28, will always be the day you saved my life. I guess you're out saving another life now. I read a blog yesterday in which an endo patient said that there is no cure for endo and it's something you'd always have to live with. She obviously has not met Dr. Redwine. I hope she does. I hope she reads my story. My endo is gone. My 28 years of suffering are over. There is hope. There is a doctor who cares and knows what he is doing. There is life after endo. One more hollow Thank You! I think I have to return to Bend and shout it from atop one of those beautiful mountains to have it reverberate enough for everyone to hear.
Sincerely,
Hazel Johnson

I have always had painful periods, but assumed they were part of the normal spectrum until I was diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis last year while being worked up for infertility. My gynecologist, who is considered to be an expert on endometriosis in western Canada, immediately told me I had to see Dr. Redwine for treatment. I am so grateful for that advice. I had surgery in late august and I have absolutely no regrets. The care was outstanding, surpassing my expectations (which were very high). I am a family physician myself, and I take pride in Canada's health care system, but I know I could not have received that level of care in my own province. There is no gynecologist in Canada who can do what Dr. Redwine does. He knows what to look for and how to remove it. I am amazed at his level of skill; I had 2 pieces of my bowel removed, and the ends put back together, all laparoscopically! I was able to recover enough to go back to my hotel within 48 hours! I feel confident that this surgery will likely be my last surgery for endometriosis. And for the first time in a long time I have some hope that I will be able to have children. I have no hesitation in giving Dr. Redwine, his staff, the hospital and this whole program my ringing endorsement.

What an experience that I had with Dr. Redwine and his office! They were the best! I had reservations flying 3000+ miles to have surgery, but it was worth it. I have gotten my life back.I am a full time potter and gallery owner and had not been able to work full time until I had my surgery. Thanks to Dr. Redwine getting me back on my feet, I am going to be having a featured segment on HGTV on my pottery work! He truly can change your life. I did everything possible before seeing him. I had 4 surgeries before him and did lupron injections and back to back birth control for months at a time and nothing worked for the pain. Not to mention the narcotics that I lived on for 3+ years.
This doctor is amazing and I truly am very thankful to him and his staff for running such a tight ship!
Dear Dr. Redwine and staff:

I can't thank you enough for the exceptional care you provided me. From the very beginning when I first contacted your office to most presently post surgery, you all have been wonderful to work with. I personally had been suffering from extremely debilitating menstrual cramps for 22 years, I have been through 2 surgeries prior to seeing Dr. Redwine, and had tried birth control pills, depo lupron injections, and countless anti-inflammatory drugs as well as narcotics. Nothing was able to eliminate the pain I was in. Besides the physical pain I was experiencing, the emotional pain was becoming tougher and tougher to deal with. I truly felt as though there was no hope for relief.
Then when I discovered Dr. Redwine and the type of procedure he performed, I saw a glimpse of light. The thought of traveling out of state for a very intricate procedure, scared me. But after a lot of research and many conversations with Dr. Redwine and his staff, I was ready to be cured. And I can honestly say that's truly what I was, cured!!! After the surgery for excision of endometriosis and the presacral nuerectomy, I felt like a new woman. The pain was GONE.....I went from taking heavy anti-inflammatory drugs and narcotics, to taking nothing. Yes, nothing. As a result of the surgery Dr Redwine performed, I feel like I have been given my life back. I am no longer planning my life around my menstrual cycles, they are no longer ruling my world. I experience so little discomfort these days, that I no longer dread the arrival of my period. And for the longest time I was concerned that because of all that I went through, that my daughter may experience the same thing when she hits menstruation. Well, now I rest assured knowing that if she does go through what I went through, I have a solution. I will take her to Dr. Redwine!
Thank you for doing what you do. I hope your expertise will be shared thought the medical community and I hope other women will be as fortunate as I was to be able to have you as my surgeon.
Sincerely,
Elise Hartmann

When you live with chronic pain, it helps if the surgeon you choose can demonstrate superior skill. It doesn’t help if he is arrogant about it. I feel grateful that Dr. Redwine wasn’t aloof like all the other physicians I consulted. His quiet confidence yet fierce intelligence reassured me that I had made the right choice to travel from my home in the Caribbean to have surgery with an American doctor I had never met, in a town I had never heard about.
I left home exhausted from twenty-eight years of pain and medical abuse by physicians who knew less about endometriosis than I did. They were mean and arrogant and told me that I absolutely did not have endometriosis and that the chronic pain was all in my head.
After being debilitated for the previous eight years, by 2004, I felt I had one chance of getting better and that glimmer of hope was Dr. Redwine. I devoured everything I could that he had written, and one thing was always evident - it made simple sense. Everything he had to say made more sense than anything I had ever read on endometriosis and it was all so clearly written. It was evident from his writings that he knew that of which he spoke.
I walked into his office shivering on a cold day in December (cold for me, coming from the tropics) and was so immediately embraced by the warmth of the office and his staff that I was able to relax.
Best gynae visit I have ever had. Dr. Redwine is gentle and patiently listens to, and truthfully answers, all questions; in fact, he seems to welcome questions. And the bonus is that he is funny as hell – great sense of humor. If you’ve experienced the pain of endo, you might have discovered that being able to laugh at yourself and the things you’re willing to do to get better, helps you to cope.
People generally are understandably scared of surgery. I think if you have done your research and find a surgeon who knows what he is doing but never wants to stop learning, you can trust him to give you the best care possible. You then would have eliminated much of the reason to be afraid.
I was anxious on the morning of surgery. Not about the surgery, because I had found the best person for the job, but anxious to go to sleep so that I could awaken pain free. I was so confident that Dr. Redwine could do that.
I have been pain free ever since. It’s been ten months now and the last pain I experienced was before I left home for Bend. This is the longest pain free period in twenty-eight years. Dr. Redwine’s the reason. Dr. Redwine, his staff, and the people at St. Charles, and the good people of Bend. Everyone I came into contact with, from the store clerk, to the hotel manager, the clerical staff at the hospital, the lab technicians and the doctors and nurses. I call them the angels of Bend. They all seemed to be working in tandem to get me better. There seemed to be some unspoken code that kicked in from the time I got there. It was always about me and my needs. I don’t think it is possible to find such good care anywhere else. I joke that it almost makes me want to be sick again so that I can repeat the experience and be pampered! But just almost! The pain is gone and I now have a chance at life
I am grateful to Dr. Redwine for choosing to practice medicine with integrity, for choosing to seek the truth about endo. He has saved my life. I am grateful to his staff for caring enough about what they do to be good at it - To Kate for patiently answering all my questions; to Kathy for giving me an intro to good nursing care in Bend, and for her laughter and vivre; to Alana and Deena for the warm smiles. I am also grateful to the nurses at St. Charles - Florence Nightingales all. You took such good care of me, it is no wonder I had no pain at all in the hospital and recovered so quickly.
I was healed on so many levels by going to Bend for surgery with Dr. Redwine and I had so much fun! Who would have thought!
To the many women like me whose careers and other life goals may have been destroyed by pelvic pain, who’ve been to scores of doctors and still can’t get better, I say, be your own advocate. Most people, especially a lot of doctors, won’t know what you’re experiencing. Fight your own battle. Do your own research. Critically compare what you read. Trust your instincts and you’ll probably discover that what Dr. Redwine says resonates with you because it makes simple sense. I hope your journey leads you to Bend. You’re sure to find healing there.

I am a 32 year old high school teacher. I was diagnosed with endometriosis in 2000 and since that time I have had five surgeries. Despite my disease I was able to work full time and compete in marathons. I underwent a partial hysterectomy in January 2003, and since that time I can no longer work full time nor do any physical activities because of left lower quadrant chronic pain. I have spent the last 2 years trying to find a surgeon who can give me back my life. I wrote Dr. Redwine in June 2005, and for the first time in 2 years I now have hope that I may one day teach full time and maybe even run again!!! My question to any Canadian women who have been treated by Dr. Redwine is were you able to get any financial assistance from medicare? " Dr. Redwine; I so look forward to having the surgery. "

My adhesions are gone!
My life has been filled with pain since my first surgery
because of adhesions that formed. The Doctors I have seen in the past kept doing major surgery to correct the bowel blockage. This would cause more adhesions and much more money. I called Dr Redwine's office and then made a appointmnet to meet with him in Bend Oregon. The date was set for the Surgery , I didn't know at the time if this would work, but willing to try anything.
The staff at his office were very helpful and loving.
When I arrived at the hospital for the surgery I was treated like a queen. The surgery went great and 12 hours later I was eating a steak dinner with my husband. My recovery was fast and to this day I have not been sick. I would say to anyone looking for the best Dr to remove adhesions with laporscopic sugery to call Dr Redwines office.Yahooooo I feel great and have my life back!!

I cannot begin to tell you how grateful I am. Everyone I came in contact with at Dr. Redwine's office & at St. Charles were above and far beyond exceptional! I had surgery & Danazol which, of course, didn't work. My options were to have a hysterectomy or see a specialist. I thank God for Dr. Redwine! He is a true gift to all of us! I am two months out of surgery with him. I've had two periods - the last with very little pain. Nothing a couple of ibuprofen couldn't handle, which is astounding. My husband keeps asking me what I've done with his wife. My life has changed so much already! To anyone considering making the journey to see Dr. Redwine, please know that you are truly in the hands of an angel. It's worth everything!

"I am very thankful to Dr. Redwine for the positive outlook I now have for the future of my health. I appreciate all of the information provided and his patience in answering all of my questions. Of all my hospital experiences, this was far and above the best. I was treated with courtesy and concern. Everyone acted as if they were there just to take care of ME. Not only was I well cared for, but my family also. I thank you for making a very apprehensive situation a pleasant one. It was well worth the efforts to travel out of state to (receive care from) Dr. Redwine and St. Charles Medical Center."

"I have had five major surgeries in seven years. Never was I treated so well. The doctors, the hospital, and staff are truly exceptional and gifted. Bless you, when women like me had run out of hope. You are truly needed in this world of pain and misunderstanding of endo. Thank you for exceptional care."
